WISE Co-Coordinator and Art Teacher at Woodlands High School, Dr. Constantine Andreadis shares what WISE means to him.
In his first few years of being a WISE mentor, Dr. Andreadis worked with a student who was abusing his beeper to get out of class. One day, the student opened up to Dr. Andreadis about why he was avoiding class — he could not read or write.
“It touched my heart,” said Dr. Andreadis.
In that moment, Dr. Andreadis realized what was happening in the WISE program: “WISE gives teachers an opportunity to establish a relationship [with a student] and really learn and teach and share…You can open up so many doors for young people through this program. You can give them the ability to fly.’
Dr. Andreadis continues to mentor and be an advocate for WISE students at Woodlands today.
