Our visit to VOYAGES High School in Queens, N.Y. at the end of February was quite a trip. The school, also known as “Viable Options for Young Adults to Grow, Excel and Succeed,” is an “alternative” public high school, one of several such schools now operating in New York City.

Such a network was prominent years ago, when it was readily acknowledged that every student doesn’t march to the beat of the same drum. The students are a little older, more seasoned, and one would believe, more focused on their goals. Many of them probably see VOYAGES as their last opportunity to achieve that elusive high school diploma, so that they can get on with the rest of their lives. We welcome VOYAGES as a member of the WISE family. Many of the students probably hold within them a project about which they are quite passionate, and are waiting for the vehicle to use to see it through. WISE will now be that vehicle for them. We look forward to facilitating the process of them bringing their passions to life.
